Clemson vs. Georgia Tech 2016 odds: Tigers big betting favorite on the road

The Tigers will try to snap a five-game road losing streak against the Yellow Jackets on Thursday as double-digit chalk at the sportsbooks.

Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

The Clemson Tigers are 0-5 straight up and 2-3 against the spread in their last five road games against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Tigers will try to win on the road against Georgia Tech for the first time since 2003 this Thursday night.

Clemson is a 10-point road favorite on Thursday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The line opened with the Tigers as an 11-point favorite, but has moved in Georgia Tech’s favor based on early week action.

Going against an FCS team that requested that the second half of the game be shortened by six minutes last Saturday, the Clemson Tigers cruised to a 59-0 victory.

But against FBS teams this season, Deshaun Watson and the Tigers have been fairly underwhelming, going 0-2 ATS with a 19-13 win over Auburn, and a 30-24 win over Troy. With a home date against Louisville coming up on Oct. 1, Clemson could use an impressive win this week to go into that big game with some momentum.

The Tigers are 8-1 SU in their last nine road games, but just 2-7 ATS over that stretch per the OddsShark College Football Database. The one road loss in that span came against Georgia Tech.

Betting Line / Total: Clemson -10 / 57 Points

Trend: Clemson is 0-5 SU in its last five games on the road against Georgia Tech.

Trend: Georgia Tech is 1-4 SU and ATS in its last five games on Thursday.

Georgia Tech entered this season after a disastrous 3-9 SU campaign that ended with a 1-9 SU and ATS slump. The Yellow Jackets have already matched last season’s win total through their first three games with a 3-0 SU and 1-1 ATS record, including an impressive 38-7 win as a 6.5-point favorite last Saturday against Vanderbilt.

To pull off the upset this week, Georgia Tech will need to break out of a slump in which the team has gone 1-4 SU and ATS in its last five Thursday games.

Thursday’s total is set at 57 points. The UNDER is 11-4 in Clemson’s last 15 games against teams with winning records and 4-1 in Georgia Tech’s last five games against ACC opponents.

Even in the midst of an awful season last year, the Yellow Jackets pulled off a 22-16 upset over Florida State as a 5-point underdog at home. Clemson beat the Yellow Jackets at home 43-24 last year, but this season’s game could be closer with the change of venue.
