Ole Miss vs. Florida State odds 2016: Seminoles favored in Orlando on Labor Day

Two teams ranked in the Top 15 in the country meet in Orlando on Monday night with favored Florida State taking on underdog Ole Miss.

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Since 2010, the Florida State Seminoles are 7-1 straight up and 5-3 against the spread in eight games against SEC opponents. The Seminoles hope to continue that success in their season opener this Monday night in Orlando against the Ole Miss Rebels.

Florida State is a five-point favorite for the game at Camping World Stadium at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In their last five games as a betting favorite, the Seminoles are 4-1 SU and ATS.

Expectations were low in what was expected to be a rebuilding year for the Florida State Seminoles last season, but the team actually played very well. The Seminoles went 10-2 SU and 8-4 ATS over the course of the regular season before falling flat in a 38-24 loss to Houston in the Peach Bowl.

With loads of talent returning on defense and sophomore standout Dalvin Cook returning in the backfield, Florida State should challenge for another double-digit win campaign in 2016.

Since the start of the 2014 season, the Seminoles are a staggering 24-2 SU in 26 games as the betting favorite. But over that stretch, Florida State is just 10-16 ATS per the OddsShark College Football Database.

Betting Line/Total: Florida State -5 / 58.5 Points

Trend: Florida State is 6-0 SU in its last six games after losing as a favorite.

Trend: Mississippi is 9-2 SU in its last 11 games in Week 1.

Ole Miss built on a solid year in 2014 with another strong season last year, putting together a 10-3 SU and 8-4-1 campaign that included road wins over Alabama, Mississippi State, LSU and Oklahoma State.

The Rebels lost some important talent on both sides of the ball, but experienced quarterback Chad Kelly returns after leading the team to 40.8 points per game last year. Mississippi is 11-4 ATS in its last 15 games as a betting underdog and 4-2 SU in its last six.

Monday’s total is set at 58.5 points. The UNDER is 8-4 in Florida State’s last 12 games and 6-1 in Mississippi’s last seven games as an underdog.

After facing this tough season opener against Florida State, Ole Miss gets a breather against Wofford next week before hosting Alabama and Georgia in its next two games. If the Rebels can emerge from this rough start with three wins, they could be a force in the SEC West this season.

But it all starts on Monday night against this very strong Florida State squad.
