The UCF Knights are currently 5-0, and they hold a 3-0 record in conference play. They will look to extend their win streak against the 5-1 Navy Midshipmen — which is the top-ranked team in the American Athletic West conference. The game will take place on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 3:30 p.m. ET. CBS Sports (livestream) will broadcast the action from the Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

UCF is averaging 50.6 points per game this season, and its offense had a 52.9 percent success rate — which is good for third in the nation. The Knights defense is playing well this year, too. This unit surrendered only 16.8 points in five games, and it allows a 32.5 percent success rate — which is the 10th-best in the nation.

The Midshipmen, on the other hand, average 36 points per game and have a 49 percent success rate, which is the eighth-best in the nation. However, Navy’s defense is struggling this season, surrendering 27.5 points per matchup. Indeed, the Midshipmen’s offense can light up scoreboards, but their defense has to step up against UCF.

UCF vs. Navy news:

Last week in this space, we started talking strength of schedule and how, as between the winner of the War on I-4 and San Diego State, strength of schedule might matter a great deal.

Yeah, so Boise State knocked off SDSU 31-14. The only Group of Five team ranked above the UCF Knights is USF. And – obviously – the Knights have the opportunity to beat the Bulls. UCF controls its own destiny when it comes to playing in a New Year’s Six bowl.

The teams UCF have beaten this year are a combined 15-17. Sure, the Knights have only played two teams with winning records right now – Memphis and FIU. But UCF is blowing everyone off the field, and hasn’t been seriously challenged after the half in any game.

Knights second-year head coach Scott Frost, a former Nebraska quarterback from the 1990s, played on his scout team’s offense for his defense to help it prepare for the Midshipmen’s offense, led by quarterback Zach Abey.

UCF vs. Navy prediction:

UCF’s offense is too strong, and Navy will struggle in this game. Yes, Navy’s offense is great, but its defense wouldn’t be able to make enough plays to neutralize UCF.
