Barkley is lightning, as usual.
Barkley took a direct snap on the second play of No. 2 Penn State’s primetime game against Michigan. Quarterback Trace McSorley basically traded places with him, cutting across Barkley’s body like he’d be taking a handoff from his own running back. Out of that inverted-veer look, Barkley kept the ball and took off on an inside running path.
Michigan was either really confused, just not fast enough to catch up with Barkley, or — most likely — a combination of the two. Barkley cut back to his left after starting to his right, and once he kicked into high gear, that was that.
Sixty-nine yards later, Barkley was in the end zone. 7-0, Penn State, on one of the best highlights of the year by maybe the best player in college football.
