The Miami Hurricanes almost watched their undefeated season end on Saturday in Coral Gables against the Syracuse Orange. The Canes beat the Orange, 27-19, and the game had a pretty dramatic finish. Miami running back Travis Homer, who’s since stepped in for an injured Mark Walton, scored the eventual game-winning touchdown with just under three minutes left.

On Syracuse’s next possession, Eric Dungey’s pass on fourth down was ruled incomplete, giving Miami the opportunity to get in the victory formation and seal the win.
Miami’s defense let Syracuse’s offense back in the game in the second half. The Canes went to the locker room with a 13-3 lead, but it was all Syracuse’s offense with Dungey running the show in the second half. He led four scoring drives, including three long field goals. The last was a 53-yarder that pulled Syracuse within 20-19. That was set up by this huge hurdle on a long run:
The Orange came in looking to continue their momentum from last week’s home upset over then-No. 2 Clemson. They played Miami incredibly tough but came up short, and it goes to show you just how high the ceiling is for this program in Dino Baber’s second year.
For Miami, the Canes’ season that fans have been waiting for basically ever since the mid-2000’s continues. For the third week in a row, Miami has had a crucial game-winning drives to give them victories late in games, making for some dramatic finishes to say the least. The Canes can now easily clinch the ACC Coastal with games against UNC, Virginia Tech, and Virginia remaining. If all goes according to plan, the Canes could be playing in their first ACC Championship game come December.
