Earlier this week ahead of LSU’s game at Ole Miss, former Rebels head coach Ed Orgeron talked about his coaching days in Oxford, since he was making his first trip back as a head coach there since he was fired back in 2007. One of the things he remembers most about Oxford? The chicken-on-a-stick he ate at an Exxon station.
ESPN’s announcers for LSU-Ole Miss got chicken-on-a-stick in honor of Ed Orgeron
Earlier this week, Ed Orgeron called it “the best chicken he’s ever had.”

Here’s the full exchange, as transcribed by SEC Country:
ED ORGERON: No, you know, I used to stop at the Exxon and get a chicken-on-a-stick, and they were fantastic. I hope that cook is still there, and I can stop and say hello to her. That’s about all I remember.
Question: This is in Oxford?
ED ORGERON: Yeah, chicken-on-a-stick. It was phenomenal.
Queston: Good chicken-on-a-stick?
ED ORGERON: The best I ever had! Not better than Raising Cane’s! (Laughter.)
In honor of Orgeron’s love for this chicken-on-a-stick, ESPN’s Joe Tessitore and Todd Blackledge brought some into the booth after halftime.
According to my colleague Steven Godfrey, who is much more well-versed in chicken-on-a-stick than I am, holding the actual chicken not from the stick is a pretty grave offense. Anyway, thank you for giving us this beautiful moment in television, Blackledge and Tessitore.
