The Ohio State Buckeyes are celebrating Homecoming six weeks into the 2017 season when they host the Maryland Terrapins in Big Ten action on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on FOX (live stream it on FOXSportsGo.com).

The Buckeyes are coming off a shutout of Rutgers, and the Terrapins are looking for some stability under their third QB of the season, Max Bortenschlager. The Terps are averaging 173.8 passing yards per game, so their offense will be a test for Ohio State’s secondary.

Bortenschlager started gaining some confidence in the team’s win over Minnesota last week — plus pulling an upset as a 13-point underdog can really create some momentum. The new QB went 18-of-28 for 154 yards and two TDs, and with another week of practice with the first team, he could see a bump in this week’s stat line.

Maryland vs. Ohio State news:

With Fuller getting the praise, he may very well be the person the secondary looks to; in a sense, he’s another leader on the field. Against Rutgers, Fuller led the team with eight tackles, and he also tallied .5 tackles for loss.

The Law of Gus Johnson suggests it should be closer than expected, and Maryland’s results in its first two road games are certainly encouraging, but staying competitive in Columbus would take an even better performance than the Terps put forth in beating Minnesota.

There were at least two times where Barrett made the perfect read and made the defense pay. This is vintage Barrett and this is what separates himself from the other quarterbacks on this roster

With so many former assistants, Urban Meyer is bound to run into more than one each season.

During his press conference earlier in the week, Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer touted Maryland’s head coach D.J. Durkin as one of his favorite former staffers. The two leaders first worked together at Bowling Green in 2001-2002, and then again for one season in Florida (2010). Durkin has only been with the Terps since 2016 and has faced an uphill battle as he finished his first season 6-7 after losing 36-30 to Boston College in the Quick Lane Bowl.

Last week’s win over another former Meyer assistant, Chris Ash, makes the Buckeyes’ head coach 9-1 against his former assistants. With the Maryland team still struggling to get up to Big Ten standards, Meyer will probably be 10-1 heading into Week 7.

Maryland vs. Ohio State prediction:

The Buckeyes come away with a big win during their Homecoming game Saturday with the Terps’ third-string quarterback struggling to find some consistency against even a young Ohio State secondary.
