With only two weeks left in the 2017 college football regular season, two Big Ten teams will compete for bowl placement, when the Nebraska Cornhuskers hit the road to face the Penn State Nittany Lions Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on FS1 (live stream).

It has been a rough few weeks for both of these teams, with Penn State’s hopes for a national title run dashed and then completely destroyed, and Nebraska losing to Minnesota 54-21. Now, as they inch closer to the end of the season, they’ll need to dig deep for the motivation to carry them through bowl season and hopefully set a new tone for next year’s team.

Time, TV channel, and streaming info

  • Time: 4 p.m. ET
  • Location: Beaver Stadium, University Park, Pa.
  • TV: FS1
  • Streaming: FOXSportsGo
  • Odds: The Nittany Lions are 23-point favorites. (Yowza.)

Nebraska vs. Penn State news:

Saquon did get back on track for a pair of rushing touchdowns and added another highlight-reel moment when he took the lateral end of a Boise State-style hook-and-lateral from DaeSean Hamilton and leaped over a Rutgers defender like Michael Jordan, coming up just a yard shy of the end zone (Penn State would punch the ball in shortly thereafter).

On defense, they look like they don’t trust what they are being coached to do or trust that they’ll be in the right place to make the play. On offense, the lack of development and injuries on the offensive line + way too many interceptions have derailed a promising unit.

So, what are these two teams still fighting for?

Well, simply put, Nebraska’s head coach Mike Riley is fighting for his job — or at least fighting for a chance to get another job after Nebraska “parts ways” with him at the end of the season. There’s already several head coach positions opening up (cough, Florida, cough) and Riley will need to get his hat in the race as the university tries to scoop up a new talented head coach before some other program does.

Just weeks ago the national landscape had paved a way for Penn State to finally get into their first College Football Playoff after being omitted last season despite winning the Big Ten title. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. All those early conversations were for nought though, with the Nittany Lions taking a close loss to Ohio State, only to follow it up with a head-scratching defeat to Michigan State.

Now claiming two losses, not just on the season (essentially removing them from the CFP discussion), but against divisional opponents, the race for the top of the Big Ten East, looks like a battle between the Buckeyes and Spartans -- with Ohio State claiming the upper hand thanks to their demolishing of Mark Dantonio’s squad last week in Columbus.

While Penn State still has the record and talent to make it to a New Years Six bowl game, the Cornhuskers will be hoping for any bowl at all.

Nebraska vs. Penn State prediction:

The Nittany Lions are still on their redemption tour, and winning big against Rutgers last week isn’t going to do it. They need to finish out the season strong and with momentum to lead them into 2018. Nebraska is simply a team getting in their way. Penn State wins by at least two scores.
