All people are imperfect. College football kickers aren’t any different than the rest of us, and I don’t point at this missed field goal to be mean. I point to it because it’s the widest field goal miss I’ve ever seen in my life from this distance:
You will never see a 20-yard field goal miss by more than this Texas Tech attempt
Just saying “college kickers” doesn’t do it justice.


Texas Tech had forced a turnover deep inside TCU territory on Saturday in Lubbock. The Horned Frogs’ defense held, so Tech brought out kicker Clayton Hatfield for a 20-yarder. There are no sure things in college kicking, and these get missed sometimes.
But, uh. The reverse angle:
It’s not the widest miss in general this season, I don’t think. Wake Forest missed one at Clemson a month and a half earlier that may have been even farther from going through:
That one was a 50-yarder, though, so the angle wasn’t as severely bad as the one on Tech’s miss. Tech’s might get the title belt if we pull out a protractor.
