My goodness, Navy offensive coordinator Ivin Jasper, this is one beauty of a play call. During the third quarter against Temple, the Midshipmen were deep inside Owls territory when they scored on a touchdown pass to pull within 11. But it wasn’t just a typical pass play — the ball was directly snapped to the running back, who pitched it back to slot back Malcolm Perry, who found QB Zach Abey wide open in the end zone.
This Navy trick play was a trick play inside of a trick play
There’s a lot going on here, and it’s beautiful.

But did you see what happened at the beginning?
Abey was out wide, pretending to give signals to the linemen, which caused half the defense to stand around flat-footed.
Toward the end of the play, only No. 11 (who had another receiver in the way — play design!) and No. 22 were paying any attention to the QB, and there was no hope of catching up in time.
Unfortunately for Navy, the Owls won, but that doesn’t make this play call any less great. As someone who personally loves watching option football, this was a dang treat of a trick play that was executed to a T.
We’ll see if the Midshipmen have anything else up their sleeves! Hopefully they do, to be honest.
