The No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish are on a six-game winning streak, coming off a big win over NC State last weekend. They have forced themselves into the national conversation for a spot in the College Football Playoff, but now they’ll face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC (live stream).

The Fighting Irish have pushed their way to the top of the rankings in hopes of a playoff bid.

Sitting at 5-3 on the season, the Demon Deacons are hot off a 42-32 win over Lamar Jackson’s Louisville team and are hoping to keep that momentum heading into Week 10. Playing a top 10 team on the road will be a difficult challenge for Wake Forest, but some other playoff hopefuls are putting their hopes in the underdog upset.

Wake Forest vs. Notre Dame news:
- The Wake Forest offense put on a clinic last week against Louisville, with QB John Wolford (Offensive Back of the Week) and WR Greg Dortch (Rookie- and Wide Receiver of the Week) earning ACC honors for their performances.
John Wolford was an absolute maestro. There is no other word for it. 28-34 for 461 yards, 5 touchdowns, no picks, and another touchdown on the ground. I genuinely believe it may go down as the greatest single game quarterback performance in Wake Forest history. He didn’t do it alone, though. Greg Dortch was a monster again. 10 snags for 167 touchdowns and a school record 4 receiving TDs (it should’ve been 5).
- The Fighting Irish have won against some pretty impressive competition up to this point in the season.
Two of those wins just came in consecutive weeks against Top 15 opponents, the USC Trojans and the N.C. State Wolfpack. While this weeks test, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons aren’t ranked, they are a dangerous football team and a quality ACC opponent.
- Notre Dame running back Josh Adams is finally getting the attention he deserves, coming off a big week and putting together a Heisman campaign.
Notre Dame launched its Heisman campaign for Adams last week, which had me convinced that he was going to go down with a season ending freak injury during this game. Instead, we were treated to a 202 yard rushing week for Adams against a defense that hadn’t let up more than 80 yards to a single rusher all season.
The Fighting Irish are making a push for the College Football Playoff
The CFP committee released the first official rankings earlier in the week, and Notre Dame is ranked No. 3. There’s a crowded top 10, filled with deserving one-loss teams, and some questionable programs that are somehow still undefeated. With four weeks left in the season, there isn’t much time for movement among the ranks, but with rivalry games heating up and upsets still to be had, there’s still room for movement in the final four.
Hoping to keep one of those spots are Brian Kelly and his Fighting Irish team. Quarterback Brandon Wimbush has stepped up over the past few weeks, having already claimed over 1,000 passing yards (and 10 TDs) this season. He’s still sitting at a 52 percent completion rate, but he’s at least trending in the right direction. If Notre Dame wants to make it to its first College Football Playoff, it’ll need Wimbush to continue improving, and to win out in impressive fashion — but, it’s looking more and more likely.
Wake Forest vs. Notre Dame prediction:
The Fighting Irish get the win and Brian Kelly doesn’t even have to get red-purple-faced mad to inspire his team. With the hopes of a playoff spot now lingering in front of them, this Notre Dame team plays with extra “oomph” for the remainder of the season.
