FAU won its game over Marshall 30-25 Friday night. But the decision that got the Thundering Herd up to that 25-point mark was a peculiar one.
Lane Kiffin joked that he took a late safety to avoid covering the spread, and lobbed shade at Alabama at the same damn time
Finally the late-game decision makes sense.

Leading by a touchdown (keep that detail in mind) Kiffin called for his punter to run out of the back of the end zone for a safety, which the specialist did.
Now, circling back to the TD part of the last sentence: If you had money on the favored Owls then you were very upset about this because Kiffin’s Owls were favored by 6.5 points. The didn’t cover the spread, and there’s at least one bettor who lost money because of this decision.
Kiffin clearly doesn’t care.
And, as usual, a Kiffin statement has led to a spokesperson clarification.
Oh, and if you’re wondering what that rat poison statement is: He’s taking a swipe at his old boss, Nick Saban. There’s no love lost between the two, and Saban called the media gassing his undefeated Crimson Tide up a few weeks ago just that: Rat poison.
I’m trying to get our players to listen to me, instead of listening to you guys. You know, all that stuff you write about how good we are? And all that stuff they hear on ESPN? It’s like poison. You know what I mean? It’s like poison. It’s like taking poison. Like rat poison. All right, so I’m asking them, ‘Are you gonna listen to me, or are you gonna listen to these guys about how good you are?
It is also not the first time Kiffin’s done this.
Never change, Lane.
