He’s still in play for the gig too.

We’ve heard of programs going young with their head coaching hires, but we’ve never heard of them going this young. Kent State reportedly interviewed Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley’s younger brother, Garrett, who is an assistant at Kansas.

The report from FootballScoop.com details that athletic director Joel Nielsen has had some issues filling the job.

Within the last week, Nielsen interviewed Garrett Riley, the younger brother of Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley. Riley graduated from college in 2012 and recently completed his first season as an on-the-field FBS coach, working as Kansas’s quarterbacks coach. Although we understand Nielsen is interviewing another lower level head coach today, sources tell us Riley remains a candidate for the job.

Nielsen has gone through “at least 15 coaches” in the search, per FootballScoop. In late November, a source told SB Nation that “I’ve never seen less interest in an FBS job ever.”

Should Riley get the job, he would certainly be the youngest head coach in FBS. Good luck, Golden Flashes.
