If Clemson (the school) makes college football’s national championship game, Clemson (the city) will just forget about certain alcohol laws the night of the game.
Clemson’s going to just forget about open-container laws for a night if the football team makes the national title game
Drinks will be flowing.

FOX Carolina reports:
In Monday night’s city council meeting, council members approved a downtown National Championship viewing event festival along with the suspension of open container laws starting at 6 p.m. on Jan. 8 if the Tigers go to the National Championship game.
The council said it hopes to have a similar event to the 2017 National Championship where they close off College Avenue and bring in a Jumbotron so the community can watch the game.
If open container laws are suspended, city council said people will not be able to bring their own drinks but can purchase alcohol for bars or restaurants in the city.
I’m not an expert in public health policy, but that’s probably a good idea! It seems far-fetched that a bunch of college football fans would gather outside to watch the Playoff National Championship and not have many alcoholic drinks flowing.
Clemson’s been in this game two years in a row and won it last year, both times against Alabama. The city had an outdoor viewing party along College Avenue for the last game, and the council reportedly “hopes to have a similar event” this time, should the Tigers make it back to the title game. They probably know what they’re doing by now.
Clemson plays Alabama in a Sugar Bowl Playoff semifinal on New Year’s Day.
