In the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s Quick Lane Bowl between NIU and Duke, the head referee signaled a loss of down, and thus, a second beef ref was born. Take a look at the guns on this dude — they are impressive.
Hello, this ref in NIU-Duke is college football’s newest BEEF REF
ANOTHA ONE.

According to College Press Box, the head referee on-hand for this game is James Carter, but we cannot 100 percent confirm if this is indeed him. Regardless, I think it’s safe to say he does not skip arm day, imo. This isn’t the only beef ref in college football -- during last year’s national title game between Clemson and Alabama, referee Mike Defee was introduced to the college football world, and he subsequently became known as “beef ref”.
A star was born on this day.
During college football’s first game of the season between Colorado State and Oregon State, Defee made a return to the field. He looked a little less jacked than the title game, but he was still jacked nonetheless.
Maybe Carter can one day achieve the same beef ref fame as Defee did. Also, shoutout to him for reminding us how desperately we need to go to the gym after all the holiday eating and drinking. It is greatly appreciated.
