James Franklin’s wife jokes that Penn State needs to win or ‘me and the kids are gone’

Never tone down your loyalty to your alma mater!

Penn State is taking on Washington in this year’s Fiesta Bowl, which will kick off Saturday at 4 p.m. Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin told members of the media a few days before kickoff that his wife, Fumi Franklin, told him there will be some serious consequences if Penn State loses. Fumi is a graduate of UW’s biggest in-state rival, Washington State.

Here’s the full Franklin quote courtesy of Land of 10:

“My wife, if you guys don’t know this, she went to Washington State. So she’s a Coug. So when we found out we were playing Washington in this game, she made it very clear to me, win this game, or me and the kids are gone.”

In the mid-1990s, Franklin met his wife at Wazzu while he was getting his master’s in educational leadership. Kudos to Mrs. Franklin for staying so true to her alma mater for the Fiesta Bowl, she threatened to leave him if Penn State loses. That is a spousal decision I can fully support.
