Four-star DE Nik Bonitto is patiently waiting for Florida to offer him a scholarship

His skills aren’t simply confined to the field though.

Nik Bonitto may not end up signing with Florida, but simply getting an offer from one of the state’s three football powers would be incredible for the Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) prospect.

“It would be kinda big,” Bonitto told reporters at an Under Armour recruiting camp in Miami. “I’ve been waiting for the offer since I was probably a kid; it’s a dream to be playing there you know?”

He later said that Florida is “the school I’ve always been in love with,” but he wouldn’t automatically commit if they offered.

Bonitto is the No. 24 player in the state of Florida and the No. 4 player at the weakside defensive end position, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Florida’s season-opening opponent, Michigan, is also a suitor. He’ll take visits to Gainesville for UF’s spring game as well as Ohio State and Louisville, who he says is recruiting him the hardest.

The Cards are in the mix because they’ll let him showcase his other athletic talent as well (he wears jersey No. 10 in the video below).

“It’s actually pretty convenient for me because they also want me to come play basketball there too, so that’s pretty big for me, Bonitto said. “Not to say I’m looking for that, but they gave me the opportunity to do both, so it’s definitely a great opportunity.”

Louisville’s rival Kentucky has also told him he can hoop at the next level, and he’s received offers from Wake Forest, Minnesota, and St. Louis, among others. Florida’s basketball coaches have told him they wouldn’t mind if he double dipped either, but he’s yet to discuss it with the UF football staff.

On the field, he’s listed at defensive end, but says he may play some linebacker at the in the college game.

“Depends what school I go to,” he said. “I’m pretty sure they’re gonna use me around both [positions] because they see what I can do there and what I can do off the edge.”
