A picture’s worth 1,000 words, and these are in red letters. Youngstown State coach Bo Pelini took a visit to Notre Dame and took a picture in front of the iconic Touchdown Jesus mural:
Let Bo Pelini posing in front of Touchdown Jesus take you to church
You don’t even have to get out of bed to be baptized by “Bo-sus.”

Pelini’s son, Patrick, recently walked on at Notre Dame, and we can assume that’s why Bo was on campus.
Bo is also Catholic, and when he was at Nebraska he expanded the duty of the team’s priest. That means Touchdown Jesus has some special meaning for him.
As far as the mural’s concerned, the official name of Touchdown Jesus is the “The Word of Life Mural.” It depicts a passage from the book of John in the Bible and was donated to the school over 50 years ago:
The $200,000 mural was a gift of Mr. and Mrs. Howard V. Phalin of Winnetka, Illinois. It was installed during the spring of 1964 and was to be kept covered until the day of the formal dedication, but strong winds unveiled it a day early. The dedication ceremony was held on May 7, 1964 and included a mass and an academic convocation.
Jesus looks like he’s signaling touchdown, and the mural can be seen from inside Notre Dame Stadium:
Thankfully, we’ll always have Bo’s pose in front of it for posterity.
