As the USC hype train barrels toward the start of college football season, its conductor might as well be Sam Darnold. The rising sophomore QB didn’t start Game 1 last year, but led the Trojans to a 9-1 record as a starter including an electric Rose Bowl for the ages.

You can’t teach this accuracy.

He’s certainly enjoying a little time off, but still working on his arm at the same time.
If this throw’s any indication, then Darnold’s certainly in form as the season gets closer. It’s no secret that if the Trojans are to be truly elite this season, then it’ll be thanks to him.
From the moment Sam Darnold took the starting QB job in Week 4, USC was different. The Utes averaged 4.6 yards per play before he took over and 6.9 after, 20.3 points per game before and 38.6 after. The Trojans were the only team to beat Washington in the regular season — by 13 points in Seattle, no less — and the only one besides Michigan to beat Colorado. They beat a peaking Penn State in the Rose Bowl. They didn’t let lesser teams come anywhere close.
The throw does show off Darnold’s anticipation and accuracy, although there’s no telling how many attempts it took to get the completion.
USC hopes he’s just as accurate on land this season.
