In November 2013, this happened during Ball State-Northern Illinois:
Yes, of course the world needs a statue of a dog mascot giving a high five
NIU’s Diesel was a very good boy.

That was NIU mascot Diesel, a husky and a very good boy, demonstrating perfect friendship for all the universe’s peoples. Everyone was happy.
After retiring, Diesel was replaced by very good husky boy Mission and passed away in 2015.
The spirit of that important high five and the magic it unleashed (dog term) will never be forgotten. NIU fans are now trying to raise money for a Husky High Five statue:
To honor Diesel, his owner and handler Tom Bonnevier and to honor all past, current and future Huskie mascots, the Diesel Memorial Project has been established. The Project has a goal of raising funds to pay for the sculpting of a bronze memorial statue of Diesel in his famous “High Five” pose. The statue commemorates that event and celebrates the unique association with Huskie football of Diesel and other past, current and future mascots. The statue will be sculpted by renowned sculptor Renee Bemis. An agreement has been reached with the NIU Foundation to place the sculpture in a prominent place outside Huskie Stadium.
Diesel’s owner, Tom Bonnevier, is among the group of NIU alumni who put together the Diesel Memorial Project which is raising the money for the Project. Tom describes the purpose of the project, “Diesel and our other Huskie mascots have done so much to lift the spirits and enjoyment of games for Huskie fans. We felt the statue would be a fitting tribute to our mascots’ contributions.”
In closing, I would like you to look at that GIF again.
And again.
Few more times.
Last one.
Nope.
