Four-star Houston wide receiver Al’vonte Woodard committed to Texas over Texas A&M and others on Saturday. Woodard is the No. 12 receiver in the class of 2018, according to the 247Sports Composite, and bolsters what was already a top-10 recruiting class in Tom Herman’s first full year as the Longhorns’ head coach.

He recently spoke to SB Nation about his game, which he says is tracking the deep ball in the air.
The ground shifted in terms of his commitment. At one point, Texas A&M looked like the favorite. Then things swung to Texas. Reading the tea leaves, Woodard set a commitment date of July 15 but set a date to visit Texas on July 21. It would be his fourth visit to Austin since January, and as the adage goes: Follow the visits.
Based on a top-five list released by Woodard in late May and his commitment date announcement, the Lamar product is also considering LSU, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M.
However, the ‘Horns are the overwhelming favorite, currently holding all 13 predictions in the 247Sports Crystal Ball. Last fall, the Aggies were thought to be in a strong position, but that changed this spring, and momentum has entirely favored head coach Tom Herman’s program since then.
While Texas and Texas A&M are definitely not rivals, it’s still notable for the ecosystem of Texas recruiting for the Longhorns to win a battle here for a good prospect. Doubly so when you factor in the fact that Houston is very much Aggie territory.
UT’s transitional 2017 class wasn’t good, and that’s OK. Nobody expects Herman to continue to struggle that mightily on the recruiting trail. It will be a good class by February 2018, and Woodard figures to be a big part of that.
