Look at the paint spraying during Indiana’s beautiful, toe-dragging TD catch

And look at the Hoosiers, being all spiffy on offense.

Ohio State and Indiana are playing the first power-conference game of the season on Thursday night in Bloomington. The Buckeyes are three-touchdown favorites, but the Hoosiers have been plucky in the early going. Trailing 3-0 in the first quarter, Hoosier QB Richard Lagow found tight Ian Thomas for this 18-yard touchdown:

The score made it 7-3, Hoosiers, after an extra point.

Initially, the officiating crew calling the game ruled Lagow’s pass incomplete. The touchdown came on review, with officials ruling that Thomas dragged his back foot before his front foot landed out of bounds. It was a weird, disjointed-looking catch, but it was beautiful all the same.

Is it the right call? I think so. ESPN managed to freeze some camera frames on that replay up above, and it looks like Thomas’ right foot — the top of it, specifically — is touching red end-zone paint before his right toes are touching down out of bounds. Cheers to Lagow and Thomas for a gorgeous pitch and catch.
