The best catch of 2017, already? This NMSU TD was amazing in like 3 ways

Take a bow, Aggies receiver Jaleel Scott. This is amazing.

Week 1 hasn’t even fully commenced, so this isn’t the time for sweeping statements. But the chances are good that this is the best college catch we’ll see in 2017.

In live action:

Just the replay:

That’s New Mexico State’s Jaleel Scott, a 6’6 redshirt senior.

The three ways this might be the best catch of the year:

  • The extension. Scott is 6’6, and this catch required him to put all of those inches to the greatest possible use on a football field. Most humans can’t stretch like this:

  • The foot placement. You only need one foot in bounds in college, and Scott gets exactly that many feet in bounds. Fortunately, his back foot’s the first to land.

  • The general Odell Beckham Jr.-like quality. The fallaway one-handed catch has been the coolest thing in football since Beckham did it in the NFL two seasons ago:

New Mexico State football is not good. The program’s entire future is sort of hanging in the balance right now. We have no idea what’s coming down the road. But Scott’s catch is going to be remembered in CFB circles for a really long time.
