Can Colorado upset No. 7 Washington in Pac-12 action?

Coach Mike MacIntyre looks to prolong the Buffaloes’ eight-game home win streak, dating back to last season, when the Huskies come into town. Over those wins, the Buffaloes have looked impressive, winning by an average of 24 points. The Buffaloes are undefeated to start this season and are coming off a 41-21 trouncing of Northern Colorado. Even with the large margin of victory, Colorado will have to play much sharper and cut down on turnovers if they want to upset the Huskies.
On the opposing sideline, Huskies coach Chris Peterson will look for his team to continue its dominance over the Pac-12. The Huskies will lean on their special teams unit, which boasts Dante Pettis, who has returned a touchdown each of the last three weeks. With that in mind, this could be the week that Pettis breaks the all-time NCAA record for punt return touchdowns if the Buffaloes dare kick to him. If Washington can pick up points from its special teams, it’ll be almost impossible for Colorado to keep up.

Washington vs Colorado: News
The Huskies field one of the best offenses in college football — one averaging 47 points a game — but they’re still looking for improvement.
John Ross gave this offense a ton of juice and that attention he got from defenses helped keep the chains moving. The offense is still relatively strong, but there’s no doubt the coaches are searching for an x-factor to blow defenses wide open.
Colorado QB Steven Montez will need to play an almost perfect game, but he has looked shaky at times throughout the season, fluctuating in between brilliance and mediocrity.
The Buffaloes seemed to alternate between 75-yard scoring drives and middling three-and-outs, and that polarization could largely be attributed to how Steven Montez looked on the specific drive. On some drives, Montez looked like a damn magician as he found Devin Ross, Shay Fields and Bryce Bobo for a slew of long passes resulting in first half touchdowns for all three... On other drives, the sophomore quarterback looked uncomfortable with defensive pressure and forced bad throws, the worst of which resulting in an interception that killed a promising drive late in the first half.
Colorado’s defense will need more attention to detail than they showed last week at Northern Colorado, lapses when facing Washington will result in a field day for Jake Browning.
Breakdowns were evident on 33-yard, 52-yard and 27-yard passing touchdowns from the Bears, plus another 52-yard pass that should’ve been a touchdown but the ball was dropped. Other than those plays, the Buffs struggled to contain the ever-mobile Jacob Knipp as he scrambled for critical first downs and generally strained the CU pass defense.
The Huskies defense has looked dominant to start this season. Vita Vea and the defensive line will look to bring constant pressure on the Buffalo offensive line and QB Steven Montez.
Cohesion on the offensive line is paramount to the success of the unit as a whole. With a serious lack of cohesion this season, the Buffs O-line could be a point of weakness for their offense heading into this weekend’s matchup with the Huskies.
Can the Buffaloes hang with the Huskies?
There is a lot of excitement around the football program at Colorado, even hope that in the near future the program will soon be able to compete for the Pac-12 championship. This game will be a litmus test to truly see how they good the Buffaloes are.
The Huskies will look to return to the College Football Playoff for second consecutive season. They will need to prove just how dominant they are if they want to impress voters. Washington hopes Dante Pettis can not just continue his great play that started this season, but surpass it to become a true No. 1 receiver. They’ll need him to become that if they want to continue their undefeated regular season streak.
Washington vs. Colorado Prediction:
The Buffaloes have looked good during their start to the season, but they are still nowhere near ready to seriously challenge Washington. Washington should have no problem with the Buffaloes and should win by a more-than-comfortable margin. Jake Browning and co. will look to make a statement going into conference play, and will.
