Florida’s QB situation is yet again in flux. Late in the second quarter against Vanderbilt, Del Rio went out with what looked like a shoulder injury.
Florida QB Luke Del Rio is out for the year, and it’s Feleipe Franks’ show now
Franks played well after being thrust back into duty.


After the game, coach Jim McElwain said that Del Rio sustained a collarbone injury.
It pressed Feleipe Franks back into duty, and on Franks’ first throw back under center, offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier allowed Franks to let ‘er rip, and he threw an absolute bomb to receiver Tyrie Cleveland.
If that looks familiar, it’s a lot like the game-winning throw he connected with Cleveland with to vanquish Tennessee.
Later in the game, he pulled this magic trick out of a hat.
Feleipe Franks started Florida’s first three games as a redshirt freshman. To start the season, the Gators went with potential (Franks) over the known quantity of Luke Del Rio and the experienced graduate transfer, Malik Zaire. But when Florida needed a spark against Kentucky, Del Rio took over for Franks and triggered the comeback to win the game for UF.
Through the first half against Vandy, Florida’s actually in a relatively high scoring game. Things headed to halftime tied at 17. Franks would finish 10-14 with 184 yards.
