Mississippi State got an early touchdown against Auburn, right? Nice fumble recovery with a scoop-and-score, right? Wrong.
Mississippi State has TD wiped off the board, and Dan Mullen shows incredible restraint
He’s a better man than I am for not going ballistic.

The zebras injected themselves into things and ruled that this was an incompletion instead of a fumble initially.
The play was ruled an incompletion, and herein we find the fallacy of the rule. If this play gets ruled a fumble and things are allowed to play out then the scoop and score then it’s reviewable and it’s no problem. But when it’s ruled incomplete these things happen.
Dan Mullen was understandably pretty upset and restrained himself much better than I could in the same situation.
It’s a double whammy too because Mississippi State would be stuffed and only get a field goal out of the ensuing drive.
Auburn leads 14-3 at the end of the first quarter, and it’s easy to see how one poor call can swing the fortunes of a game quite a bit.
