Nebraska just won its first football game in 357 days!

The Huskers’ last win came on Oct. 28, 2017 against Purdue, almost a full year ago.

THE NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS HAVE FINALLY WON A GAME FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ALMOST A YEAR! On Saturday, Huskers head coach Scott Frost got his first win of his Nebraska career with a 53-28 win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

This win almost appeared to be in jeopardy, despite Nebraska getting out to a 28-0 lead in the first half. Minnesota pulled within six with 7:22 left in the third quarter. Fortunately, the Huskers did enough on offense to keep a nice cushion, and a forced Minnesota turnover in the fourth quarter followed by a Husker score sealed it.

Perhaps more importantly than Huskers’ first win of 2018: Nebraska just won a football game for the first time in 357 days.

That’s almost a full year, folks! The last time Nebraska won was on Oct. 28, 2017, when the Huskers beat Purdue 25-24 on the road.

A brief list of fun things going on in the world the last time the Huskers won:

  • This was your weekend at the movie theater:
  • Also on this date, Cardi B’s Bodak Yellow (Money Moves) was the No. 1 song in the country, per Billboard.
  • Netflix’s Stranger Things season two was released the day before.
  • The first charges in Robert Mueller’s Russia probe were filed.

Obviously, this is a pretty limited list, since this is one specific date of the year last fall.

Last week, Nebraska blew a lead at Northwestern and lost in OT, so this win has to feel pretty great.

Despite leading 31-21 inside the five-minute mark of the fourth quarter against Northwestern last week, the Wildcats were able to force overtime. Nebraska threw an interception on fourth down on its OT possession, and Northwestern hit an easy FG to get the victory.

It gave Nebraska its worst start in program history:

That 0-6 mark will still go down in history unfortunately, but for now that’s easy to look past, at least for the time being, with this Husker victory.

Minnesota wasn’t even really supposed to be one of Nebraska’s easiest remaining games!

Although Nebraska was slightly favored coming into Saturday, it looked like Frost’s best chance for win No. 1 would come next week against Bethune Cookman:

1. Oct. 27: Bethune-Cookman 97 percent: OK seriously, if Nebraska somehow doesn’t pull a win off against its currently 3-3 FCS opponent (scheduled on the fly due to the Akron game getting canceled), I just won’t even know what to say. Forfeit the rest of the season? Maybe!

2. Nov. 10: vs. Illinois, 68 percent: This Illinois team hung tough against Penn State last month for three quarters and easily won at Rutgers, so we’ll see exactly where Nebraska stands in the bottom of the B1G.

3. Oct. 20: vs. Minnesota, 47 percent

4. Oct. 13: at Northwestern, 36 percent

5. Nov. 17: vs. Michigan State, 32 percent

Nebraska’s upcoming games against Ohio State, Michigan State, and Iowa look various degrees of daunting as well, so we’ll see if Frost’s team can get more than two wins, because that Bethune-Cookman one looks likely.

In the meantime, enjoy this win, Nebraska fans. You’ve waited a while to finally get one!
