Michigan and Michigan State do not play attractive football. Your typical Wolverines-Spartans game is more or less the same as watching two people throw rocks at each other. If you’re interested in contemporary concepts like “offense” and “touchdowns” and even “nice weather,” this is not the series for you.

IT’S MICHIGAN. IT’S MICHIGAN STATE. IT’S A PUNT.
But that doesn’t mean UM-MSU can’t be sharp in its own way. This game occasionally spends some time in front of the mirror making itself look nice. And in the midst of an otherwise regular meeting between the teams on Saturday, we got this gem:
That’s a monstrous boot of the pigskin by Michigan State punter Tyler Hunt, but the monstrousness of the punt is just the start of it. This game’s happened in almost exclusively wet conditions, even after an 80-minute weather delay came and went. The long snap was bad, and Hunt had to get serious extension just to avoid a disaster going the other way. It rolled out of bounds at Michigan’s 18, as opposed to becoming a safety against MSU.
At some point, this rivalry will become one in which both teams just punt on second down throughout the game. Until then, moments like this one will have to tide us all over.
