A USF linebacker made a really explosive hit … on a USF staffer

It’s unclear exactly what was going on here.

During a critical AAC game Saturday between No. 21 USF and Houston, the Bulls’ sideline was the site of one of the most explosive hits of the afternoon.

USF linebacker Khalid McGee had some sort of issue with a USF staffer. ESPN’s cameras caught McGee flying into the frame and putting a heavy lick on that staffer, then getting restrained by a bunch of teammates and other staffers:

It’s unclear what the deal was, exactly. The Bulls’ defense — in which McGee, a senior, is the starting weak-side linebacker — had a bad first half, giving up 28 points. This altercation happened right around the end of that half, and maybe tempers were flaring.

McGee’s a vital player for USF. His 44 tackles entering the week easily led the team, and his 6.5 run stuffs were right near the top of the leaderboard. The Bulls’ success is more rooted in offense and defense, but the defense badly needs McGee.

We’ll update this post as more information becomes available.
