College football’s getting a Myrtle Beach Bowl. A bowling alley already has that name

Myrtle Beach Bowl is a literal bowling alley.

College football is getting a new bowl game starting in 2020. It’ll be called the Myrtle Beach Bowl, and it’ll be played not quite in Myrtle Beach, but close enough to it.

Conference USA, the MAC, and the Sun Belt will each play in the bowl four times between 2020 and 2025. ESPN won’t just televise the bowl (as it does almost all bowls); it’ll also own and operate the bowl (as it does with about one third of bowls). It sounds like a nice idea.

The game will be at Coastal Carolina’s Brooks Stadium in Conway, S.C., just a 20- or 30-minute drive down U.S. Route 501 from the heart of Myrtle Beach.

I just hope the bowl organizers weren’t planning on setting up a website at MyrtleBeachBowl.com, because that’s already taken.

Not by some internet squatter, but by actual Myrtle Beach Bowl, a bowling alley:

FUN HAPPENS HERE!

The Myrtle Beach Bowl football game might offer cheap tickets or whatever, but can it possibly offer better value than what the original Myrtle Beach Bowl offers at that time of year? You can be the judge of that, but the answer is no, it absolutely cannot:

How would you prefer to spend your December days in Myrtle Beach?

  • At Myrtle Beach Bowl?
  • Or at the Myrtle Beach Bowl?

It’s a question consumers in costal South Carolina will soon have to answer for themselves.
