The UAB Blazers won the C-USA Championship with a 27-25 victory over Middle Tennessee to finish the regular season at 10-3.
Imagine losing your conference title because of 12 men on the field
Middle Tennessee had a shot to beat UAB, but messed up one big detail.

Unfortunately for the Blue Raiders, this one ended on a costly penalty. With just over a minute left UAB had the ball on fourth and 2 with a chance to take a delay of game penalty before punting.
Instead, Middle Tennessee got called for having 12 men on the field on defense. The penalty gave UAB five yards, which resulted in a first down and allowed the Blazers to run the rest of the clock down.
You can see 11 here ...
... plus the punt returner.
My God, this has to be one of the most brutal ways to win not only a game in general, but a shot at winning the conference. If Middle Tennessee could have forced a punt there on fourth down, it could have had a shot to put together a late, game-winning drive.
The overall result though, is a positive story — UAB going from being dead to coming back to life as a conference champ is one of the most feel-good stories in college football this season. Even still, you can bet Middle Tennessee fans won’t forget this one any time soon.
