The University of Michigan’s police department is looking into tweets that appear to be directed toward Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh. They were sent by one of his players, linebacker Elysee Mbem-Bosse.

Last Saturday, Mbem-Bossee sent a series of since-deleted tweets that appear to be after he was suspended from the team following what Mbem-Bossee describes as a family matter.

The tweets were screenshotted by an MGoBlog user:

Per MLive, university police opened an investigation on Monday evening:

The University of Michigan Police Department launched an investigation Monday night into social media threats apparently aimed at the Michigan football coach, Melissa Overton, deputy chief and department spokeswoman confirmed to MLive on Tuesday.

According to the report, no arrests or charges have been made.

On the following Sunday after the tweets, Mbem-Bossee issued an apology from his Twitter account. Here it is transcribed via Maize n’ Brew:

“(In) the midst of everything going on in this country, this situation has been very hard on me mentally, physically, and emotionally. In November, I was kicked off the team at Michigan with no explanation why with no timetable for return. With a family depending on me and the game I love being taken away, I constantly made efforts to get in contact with the university to talk about my role with the program. After numerous attempts, I was (given) multiple people to contact and nobody returned my calls. I take full responsibility for the tweets I made regarding the safety of Coach Harbaugh, which I fully apologize for, but being harassed by the university police and being told I’m mentally ill without proper evaluation is against my civil rights .... AT the end of the day I want to play football!”

Mbem-Bossee is a rising junior who has played in 12 games in his Wolverine career. At this time, he is not listed on the active spring 2018 roster. As a 2016 recruit, he was a three-star linebacker prospect out of Ellenwood, Georgia.

This is a developing story that we will update with more information as it comes available.
