Vince McMahon’s XFL is coming back in 2020 as a pro spring football league, but another league starting in 2019 might have just as much chance of actually succeeding.

The Alliance of American Football has a CBS Sports deal, some big-money investors, star execs like Hines Ward and Troy Polamalu, and now a star of a head coach for its first announced team.
Steve Spurrier will run the new Orlando team, which “intends to” play its home games at UCF’s stadium. On Monday, Alex Marvez of Sporting News reported that former UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel will coach a Southern California team, too. Neuheisel joined CBS as an analyst in 2015.
Spurrier, the former Florida and South Carolina head coach who up and quit coaching in 2015, has since had a role within UF’s athletic department, which the Gators say will continue.
“I know Coach is excited to have the opportunity to coach football again for a couple months out of the year. He will take some time away from his duties while he coaches but will remain on our staff and continue to serve as an ambassador for the Gators after the season,’’ Florida AD Scott Stricklin said in a statement. “We couldn’t be happier for Coach and Jerri and look forward to seeing him on the sideline again.”
I’m more worried about the spring setup making a dent in his golfing schedule, but surely he’ll find a way.
Oh right, and he also has some pro coaching experience, having visited the Washington D.C. franchise for a couple years there.
