The College World Series’ MOP set a state record for longest field goal while in high school

Adley Rutschman powered the Beavers on the diamond, but he’s a two-sport athlete.

Adley Rutschman powered Oregon State to a third national championship on the baseball diamond with a College World Series record 17 hits, 13 RBIs, and a .649 OPS. His exploits earned him the Most Outstanding Player award, and the talented switch-hitting catcher will be part of Beaver baseball lore forever. But Rutschman isn’t just versatile at the plate. He also handled kickoffs in 2016 for the Beavers’ football team.

Rutschman actually set a record for field goal kicking while in high school when he drilled this 63-yard field goal in a playoff game.

Rutschman also played running back and linebacker for his high school team in 2015, but his kicking was his strongest suit on the gridiron.

His kick broke the previous state record of 55 yards, set in 1991, and came close to the national high school record of 68 yards, set by Dirk Borgognone of Reno, Nev., in 1985.

His linebacker background helped him in kickoff coverage during his season with the football team. He had two solo tackles and got an assist on this tackle of Christian McCaffrey.

Rutschman ditched the shoulder pads permanently for catcher pads, but his kick remains epic.
