LSU is riding high after notching a dramatic win over a ranked Auburn team for the second straight season. Now the Tigers will have to avoid a letdown game — like, say, last year’s unexpected loss to Troy — when they return to the field Saturday to face Louisiana Tech.

Louisiana Tech is due for a breakthrough win — but Death Valley is a tough place to find one.

The Bulldogs may not have the same upset chops the Trojans do, but Tech is coming off four straight winning season and four straight postseason wins. Satruday’s game marks Skip Holtz’s first game against a ranked opponent since 2014, and it would be a perfect opportunity to stake his program’s claim as a Group of Five power.
But getting there won’t be easy. Not only does he have to face down a team that’s already toppled two top-10 opponents in three weeks, but he’ll have to do it in Death Valley — one of the most hostile road environments in college football.

LSU vs. Louisiana Tech news:
- The Tigers’ last-second win over Auburn was a dang roller coaster, but LSU could afford to be confident in its kicker.
- The past four years have set Louisiana Tech up for a breakthrough — the question is whether it happens in Baton Rouge or has to wait.
- Joe Burrow doesn’t slide, he tries to run right through you. Even if you’re a fence.
Can Joe Burrow stabilize against an unranked opponent?
An underwhelming passing game has been a recent hallmark of the LSU offense, and Burrow appears set to follow down the hot-and-cold path trod by players like Brandon Harris, Anthony Jennings, and Jordan Jefferson before him. Burrow has completed just 46.2 percent of his passes this fall, though he hasn’t thrown a single interception and, most importantly, he’s 3-0 as the team’s starter.
But Burrow also has yet to record a game this season where he’s converted on more than half his attempts, including a 10-20 performance against SE Louisiana. Louisiana Tech is currently ranked 15th in the country in passing defense, and the Bulldogs will have a great chance to keep that streak of inaccuracy alive.
LSU vs. Louisiana Tech prediction:
Tech was awful in close games last fall, succumbing to three different 1-point losses in 2017. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, S&P+ doesn’t think this game will be that close; Tigers by 17.
