This Penn State receiver’s parents sang him just the most adorable birthday song

KJ Hamler comes from a family with many talents.

Penn State receiver KJ Hamler is an emerging talent. The former four-star recruit missed his true freshman season in 2017 because of an ACL tear, but he’s been the Nittany Lions’ most prolific receiver in his debut year in 2018. Hamler introduced himself to a national audience with a 93-yard catch-and-run score against Ohio State in Week 5.

Hamler has what people in the business called burners. He used them there to torch several Ohio State defenders — two who had a great chance at him, in particular — on his way to the end zone. He’s a good story and a really good player. He’s easy to root for.

Making Hamler even more likable, his parents write songs about him and sing them on video for his birthday. There was reportedly one in 2018 that didn’t get tweeted to the world, but here’s 2017’s, which is the sweetest thing in the world:

Our musicians here are his mom and dad, Latonya Gooding and Thomas Hamler.

“Y’all not ready. Here he comes,” his dad starts us out. Then, his mom goes;

“We get blessings on this day. What can I say? The day got gave me the K to the J. I know it’s hard to understand or comprehend all the pleasures of being a young black man, but you made it this far. You raised the bar, and now you’re on the way to being a star. It’s been 18 years of sweat and tears. There’ll be more to come. It’s finally here. So be grateful and give some praise that God woke you up to see this day. It’s gonna be amazing when you come through that door in that No. 1 Nittany Lion roars. RAWR.”

She literally roars and then says she’s a kitty, and then his dad roars, and it’s just all very fun. I cannot strongly recommend this type of parenting enough. It’s total, public love.
