Stanford running back Bryce Love left the Cardinal’s game at No. 8 Notre Dame on Saturday with an apparent ankle injury, likely suffered or worsened on this play:
Bryce Love leaves Stanford’s game vs. Notre Dame, as his hard year continues
The top preseason Heisman candidate has had a difficult 2018.

Love briefly missed time in 2017, when he finished No. 2 in Heisman voting. He entered this season with the highest Vegas odds to win that award, but he’s had a hard time getting going in an offense whose most notable successes so far have been in the passing game.
Love went to the locker room early in the fourth quarter, walking on his own but accompanied by medical staff. The No. 7 Cardinal trailed by a touchdown at the time and went down more shortly thereafter, as the game became a cruise for the Irish.
He didn’t return. David Shaw didn’t have an update at his postgame press conference.
Love had 17 carries for 73 yards before exiting. That brought him to 327 yards on 76 carries, a 4.3-yard average that’s comfortably the worst mark of his career. Love decided not to declare for the NFL Draft after his junior year, 2017, and instead return to Palo Alto.
We’ll update this post as more information becomes available on his status.
