The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs weren’t given a tough opponent in Week 1 of the college football season, but they will get one in their second time out on Saturday against the No. 24 South Carolina Gamecocks. It’s a road game for the Bulldogs, a good gauge of how good they really are, and is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS (live streaming via FuboTV and CBS All-Access).

Georgia vs. South Carolina news:
- Despite Georgia’s blowout of their Week 1 opponents, Kirby Smart said that the team played well “in spurts,” but that there was a lot of work to do before they can handle the SEC.
- The folks at Dawg Sports wrote about three things that worry them about South Carolina. Along with fears about the team’s linebackers and secondary, they have some worries about the untested offensive line:
Let’s face it, we were not tested last Saturday. I was still a little disappointed in the run-blocking. I haven’t watched tape nor even a replay, but I hope Sam Pittman was more concerned with shuffling combinations than schemes and execution, based purely on the results. I saw some nice sealing blocks by Thomas but there wasn’t much meaningful pass pro, and we certainly didn’t just flatten Austin Peay up the gut. The total yardage was balanced and fine, I just wish I had seen some a little more road grading. I’d like to see Pittman put the SC front 4 under his thumb.
- South Carolina wasn’t ranked before Week 1, but afterward, thanks to changes near the bottom, they’ve made it up to No. 24. Previously, they were the top vote-getter not to be included in the top 25.
- On the injury front, the Gamecocks are in good shape, with KC Crosby and Mon Denson good to go and D.J. Wonnum expected to play. Will Muschap also previewed Saturday’s matchup.
Neither team was tested much in Week 1
In both teams openers, they were facing teams that had little chance of success. Georgia took on the Austin Peay Governors, winning in a blowout 45-0 game. Georgia’s quarterbacks combined for 21 of 27 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns, while the team had 33 rushing attempts for 284 yards.
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers put up a fight, at least late, but they ultimately lost to the Gamecocks, 49-15. South Carolina passes for 294 yards and five touchdowns while running the ball for 263 yards and two more touchdowns.
Georgia vs. South Carolina prediction:
Georgia is currently fifth in predictive S&P+ rankings with 28.7, while South Carolina IS 30th with 13.5 points. Georgia would thus be favored by 15.2 points on a neutral field. This isn’t a neutral field, but it’s hard to imagine South Carolina’s home-field advantage accounting for that much of a swing.
