It’s been 14 years since Dabo Swinney faced the Texas A&M Aggies on the road, but we’re going to get that matchup on Saturday. The Clemson Tigers, ranked second in the nation, are 1-0 and coming off a win in Week 1. Texas A&M bested Northwestern State in their opener, a 59-7 drubbing that Swinney will certainly be thinking about, even if his team is heavily favored.

It’s been awhile, but Clemson should be able to avenge on old road loss on Saturday.

In 2004, Swinney was a wide receivers coach for the Tigers, and they were downed by the Aggies, 27-6, a game that the coach still remembers. But the teams are in vastly different positions now, with Clemson favored by multiple touchdowns by experts and some sportsbooks.

Clemson vs. Texas A&M news:
- The College Football Playoff picture is obviously very important to Clemson fans, so take a look at their roundup of Week 1 storylines as we head into Week 2.
- The folks at Shaking the Southland took a look at both depth charts, and notably came out with the Aggies better off at quarterback, but Clemson better most everywhere else.
- There will likely be some struggles for the Aggies offense under Jimbo Fisher, though it remains a dangerous one:
Gameday will be there and Clemson is on the road in a difficult environment, upsets can and do happen. Fisher is more adaptable than he’s been given credit for and was able, for a time, to change the culture at Florida State after Bobby Bowden held on a bit too long. Still, it’s hard to bet on what looks to be a less talented and cohesive team. Young receivers often struggled at Florida State, and the sophomores A&M is running out are still in their second game in a new system. Offensive lines struggling with blitz pickup doesn’t tend to get fixed overnight. Clemson’s defensive line should be able to force A&M out of their element and Venables is as creative a DC as you’ll find in the country. The Aggies could be formidable eventually, but this Saturday it’s hard to see them winning without something wild happening.

Clemson vs. Texas A&M prediction:
Clemson is third in predictive S&P+ rankings with a 30.5, while Texas A&M is ranked 21st with 16.0 points even. That’s a difference of 14.5 points on a neutral field. Texas A&M has a talented team, but not one that will gain enough from its home-field advantage to overcome what many believe will be a multi-touchdown win for the Tigers.
