Harvard hockey removes four players after ‘academic scandal’

An academic scandal from this past summer might be related to the sudden removal of four players from the team’s official roster.

Harvard Crimson hockey players Max Everson, Patrick McNally, Mark Luzar and Stephan Michalek were all removed from the team's official roster, possibly related to an academic scandal this past summer, College Hockey News reported on Monday.

Everson, McNally and Luzar were all removed sometime last week and Michalek left the program in November and plays for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders in the United States Hockey League.

Harvard investigated students who enrolled in a government class and allegedly plagiarized answers or collaborated too much on the class’ final take-home exam.

Michalek said he planned on returning to Harvard and was just taking the year off to further his hockey career.

Crimson goaltender Raphael Girard told the university’s newspaper that without naming names, some problems might come from the academic scandal and others left the team for various reasons, but he expects them all back.

Harvard currently sits ninth in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference at 3-3-0 with six points. They are 4-3-1 overall.
