Beanpot 2013: Late goal in first period lifts BC to 1-0 edge over Harvard

BOSTON -- In what turned out to be a very even first period, the Boston College Eagles scored a late goal with 28.8 seconds remaining to take a 1-0 lead on the Harvard Crimson in the second semifinal of the 61st Annual Beanpot Tournament at TD Garden.

Despite a lower amount of shots on goal through the opening stages of the stanza, the Eagles came back for a 15-8 edge overall in the period.

The Eagles certainly had some glorious chances to beat Harvard junior Raphael Girard throughout the stanza, but were unable to cash in until sophomore Quinn Smith won the puck off the face-off and flipped the puck over the top shelf for his third goal of the stanza.

With 5:08 left, junior Kevin Hayes broke in on a 2-on-1 rush, but missed the net as the puck deflected out of play.

On BC’s late power play, thanks to a holding call from senior Brendan Rempel, junior Bill Arnold hit the side of the net with a shot that dribbled just past Girard’s post.
