Beanpot 2013: No. 5 BC cruises into title game with 4-1 win over Harvard

BOSTON -- Despite losing a shutout midway through the stanza, the No. 5 Boston College Eagles rolled to their fourth straight Beanpot title game with a 4-1 victory over the struggling Harvard Crimson on Monday night at TD Garden.

With the win, the Eagles continue the momentum that they built with Friday’s 4-1 win over Vermont, improving to 16-7-2 overall. Harvard’s struggles continued as it fell to 1-13-1 in its last 15 games and 5-15-1 overall. BC continued its run of recent dominance in the Beanpot as it extended its winning streak to ten straight games against their foes from Cambridge, dating back to the 1999 consolation game.

The Crimson were able to break senior Parker Milner’s shutout with 10:43 left in regulation as senior Danny Biega potted the one-time drive for his first of the season, taking the pass from junior Danny Fick, whose primary assist was his first point of the season.

Senior alternate captain Steven Whitney extinguished any hopes of Harvard making a comeback at 14:58 as he rifled a beautiful wrister over Harvard netminder Raphael Girard’s shoulder for his team-best 17th strike of the season.

Next Monday’s title game between the Eagles and Northeastern Huskies will be televised on NESN at 7:30 p.m.
