2012 College Hockey schedule: Three conference tournaments on display

Three conferences will crown champions this weekend. Find out who’s playing in the semifinals Friday night.

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

The Atlantic Hockey Association, Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference and Hockey East are all set to have their semifinal matchups Friday evening, with No. 2 Quinnipiac and No. 4 Boston College the top teams among the competition.

In the AHA, Canisius takes on No. 15 Niagara at 4:05 p.m. in another edition of the Western New York rivalry. The winner of that matchup will take on the winner of Mercyhurst vs. Connecticut, which is set for 7:05 p.m. Senior goaltender Matt Grogan earned All-Atlantic Hockey Association Third Team honors this season. He is 14-3-3 since becoming a starter in the middle of the year.

Quinnipiac faces Brown at 4 p.m. to kick off the ECAC action. With just six losses on the record for the 2012-2013 season, the Bobcats remain the front-runners to capture the title. Keep an eye on Matt Lorito, who has scored 24 percent of the goals for the Bears this year. No. 18 Union will play No. 11 Yale at 7:05 p.m. in the other semifinal matchup.

No. 16 Providence will play No. 5 Massachusetts-Lowell in the first game of the HEA semis. The Friars and River Hawks start freshman goalies, and both have combined for 17 weekly Hockey East honors. Fourth-ranked Boston College squares off against archrival No. 17 Boston University at 8 p.m. The Eagles won the season series 2-1.
