Mumbai Indians got to the final by winning against Chennai Super Kings and Trinidad and Tobago in the first round, followed by a drawn game against the Cobras and a loss to New South Wales. Then, in the semi-finals, they overcame Somerset at Chennai.
Bangalore lost their opening couple of encounters to the Warriors and the Kolkata Knight Riders before defeating Somerset and South Australia Redbacks to get to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, they smashed the New South Wales Blues to get to the title-winning round.
