Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif Found Guilty Of Spot-Fixing By English Court
Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif were found guilty of corruption by the Southwark court in England and face a jail sentence.

The English jury reached that verdict after deliberating for 15 hours since yesterday whereas the court case itself lasted for days. The actual sentence will be announced later this week but it is said that Butt could be sentenced to seven years of imprisonment.
Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif were earlier accused of spot-fixing in the fourth Test match that was played in 2010 at Lord’s.
It was alleged that Asif, in cahoots with his captain, had deliberately sent down no-balls at times previously agreed upon between them and the illegal bookies.
This matter came to light in a sting operation where a journalist, posing as a fixer, had offered their agent, Mazhar Majeed, a sum of money to ensure that they fix games. To gain the journalist’s trust, Majeed had accepted a payment to get them to bowl no-balls at pre-decided times.
ICC has already banned the two cricketers, along with Mohammad Amir for five years from playing cricket.
