Mahela Jayawardene has been appointed as Sri Lanka’s captain in the ODIS after their incumbent, Tillakaratne Dilshan gave up on his job. Jayawardene will lead the side in the tri-series in February that involves India and Australia as the other teams.
Dilshan Quits, Jayawardene New Sri Lanka Captain
Mahela Jayawardene has been appointed the new captain of the Sri Lankan side for their forthcoming ODI series in Australia.

Dilshan maintains his place in the squad that was announced by the selectors.
Jayawardene, 34, had earlier captained the side from 2004 to 2009 before giving up on the post to allow Kumar Sangakkara to take over. He led the side in the 2007 World Cup final where the side lost to Australia.
Sangakkara resigned from the captaincy after the 2011 World Cup final and handed over the rein to Dilshan. Dilshan had a forgettable nine months as the skipper as the side failed to win a single series in both, Tests and ODIs.
Jayawardene’s record as a captain is good, having won 57 of the 95 that he has led with 35 losses.
The squad also has Farveez Maharoof, the bowling allrounder, and Chanaka Welegedara, after missing out of the ODI action since the mid-2010 period. They replaced Kosala Kulasekara and Dilhara Fernando in the side, while Thilan Samaraweera will be a stand-by in case of injury issues.
Sri Lanka squad for tri-series in Australia is as follows:
Mahela Jayawardene (captain), Angelo Mathews (vice-captain), Upul Tharanga, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Dinesh Chandimal (wk), Lahiru Thirimanne, Thisara Perera, Farveez Maharoof, Rangana Herath, Sachithra Senanayake, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Kulasekera, Chanaka Welegedara, Dhammika Prasad
