In the third game of ongoing Asia Cup in Dhaka today, Sri Lanka will play Pakistan.

Pakistan will go into the match after a inconsistent performance against Bangladesh, a match they won by a small margin of 21 runs. The match was peculiar of Pakistan’s enigmatic performances that we have all become so used to seeing. The problem presently for Pakistan it seems is their lack of ability to bat steadily. Having begun well against Bangladesh, the batting fell away, leading to a collapse before the late order saved them of blushes. Pakistan coming from a 0-4 debacle the one-day series against England, will do well to realize that unlike Bangladesh, such opportunities for recovery will not be available against stronger teams like Sri Lanka and India. But under the mature and steady leadership of Misbah, Pakistan will hope to present a more persistent threat.

Sri Lanka on the other hand has a few problems of its own. A side known for its fielding ability, their catching has been poor, often costing them dearly. The batting presently, in terms of experience is top heavy with not many experienced batsmen in the middle order. The bowling having conceded 300 plus runs against India, will want to be more disciplined. Sri Lanka will miss the all-round abilities of Mathews, whose contribution to the side, at various critical moments has been essential. Sri Lanka if they lose the match should virtually find themselves knocked out of the tournament.
