Australia failed to chase down the target of 295 set by West Indies in the fourth ODI of the five-match series by 42 runs, thus handing the home team a 2-1 series lead.
The chase began inauspiciously with Warner falling the second over, and Australia never got going with wickets falling at regular intervals. At 112 for the loss of five wickets, Australia’s pursuit of the total fell by the wayside. A steady fifty by David Hussey and a quickfire half century from Brett Lee was too little too late. Narine continued his top form, as he bowled a miserly spell of 10 overs in which he conceded on 21 runs for one wicket.
Earlier in the day, West Indies, who at 146 for 5 in 35 overs, looked in a spot of bother. In the end, though, they were not just rescued but propelled to a score of 294, when Kieron Pollard blasted a 70 ball 104. His assault on the Australian bowling was so brutal and his impact on the batting score so great that West Indies managed to score 134 runs in 11 overs.
West Indies who had managed not a single win in 13 matches since 2006, now have two wins and a tie in the last three matches.
