Ex-Australian cricketer Stuart Law announced in Dhaka on Monday that he will resign from his position as coach of the Bangladesh team when his contract expires at the end of June.

"It is with great regret and a heavy heart that today I announce my stepping down as the head coach of Bangladesh," Law said. Stuart has been Bangladesh’s coach for only nine months so far. Bangladesh had reached the final of the Asia Cup held last month by beating India and Sri Lanka. That achievement had been considered as the nation’s finest moment.

Stuart cited family as the reason for him to quit. Law has now been in the subcontinent for two and half years, which included coaching stints with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. "Living away from the family and not seeing people growing up, I think we all understand that family comes first," he said. Stuart plans to go back to his home country, Australia.

Law’s announcement came as a surprise to the Bangladesh players who weren’t expecting any such decision. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has so far given no hint as to who will replace Stuart Law. It is believed that Dean Jones, who served as the technical director of Chittagong Kings during the Bangladesh Premier League has been offered the job.
