The Deccan Chargers lost their third consecutive match of this season of IPL when the Rajasthan Royals chased down the target of 197 to win by five wickets.

The in-form Ajinkya Rahane, who had scored a century in the previous match, and skipper Rahul Dravid began with a great sense of urgency. Dravid got stuck into Steyn and the paid put on 62 runs in only 5.5 overs. Rahane didn’t let Dravid’s wicket affect the scoring as he along with Menaria took to total to 110 in the 12th over. Menaria, Rahane and Shah then fell in quick succession. With 62 needed of 28 balls, Deccan would have believed that they had an upper hand. But Brad Hodge’s four boundaries of a Steyn over changed the balance. Requiring 11 runs off the last over, the young Dishant Yagnik was the hero as he slapped Steyn for two boundaries to take the Royals to victory.

After an eight day break, the Deccan Chargers while batting didn’t look rusty at all. They lost only 2 wickets as they compiled a mammoth total. Sangakkara and Dhawan laid the foundation with 92 for the first wicket in 10.4 overs. Christian and Duminy after starting sedately gave the inning the necessary impetus. Duminy score 58 while Dhawan had earlier scored 52. The defeat for Deccan means that they are yet to win a match this year and are now at the bottom of the table.
